After moving into another building, ELS “Geo Milev” has made significant efforts to replace the old equipment, and renovate the rooms. The results are noticeable and the new classrooms are convenient. Yet, there are still more renovations `left to be done for a better school environment.
One of the issues still left unsolved is the lack of trashcans at the school yard. Each break, students outside. There, the teenagers share their thoughts and laugh together. However, if you look at the ground you will find that it’s covered in litter. This makes a bad impression of the school and damages the prestigious reputation. One might think that it is the students’ fault, but that is simply not the case. Having to walk over 500 meters just to get to the entrance to throw your waste is annoying. Most people are in a rush and do not take out their trash at the right place.

As a person who spends most of `their free time at the benches around the statue, i have had this conversation multiple times. My peers have been complaining about this issue for a while. They claim that the problem could be solved with the installation of trash cans. At the beginning of the school year, a friend of mine had brought cookies at the benches. Suddenly, a wasp began chasing her due to the scent of the food. We panicked as she is severely allergic to these insects. It took us a while until we got to the closest bin to get rid of the cookies. The wasp almost stung her during the chase. It was a terrifying experience for everyone!
The overflowing trash after every big break is another example of why we need more dumpsters around the school grounds. The hyigienists often have to stay with a litter bag in front of the entrance, and that makes their job a lot harder.
The installation of garbage-cans around the school yard will undoubtedly influense ELS “Geo Milev” in a positive way. However, achieving it is complicated because there are other changes that the school council has to prioritise. In spite of that fact, we, as students, could still make a difference. For example, we could organise charity shops and use the money to buy trash cans. Let’s strive for a cleaner environment with mutual efforts!
