This year the club for electronic media at AEG “Geo Milev” managed to realize its intention to hold a competition for the best “meme” just before Christmas.
The “MEME-Wars” contest was announced at the end of November, with a deadline on December 10, 2021. Despite the short period, the number of applications received far exceeded our expectations, and the group of participants from different classes eagerly began to guess the verdict of the audience …
Twelve finalist works got published during the evening of December 15, on the Instagram and Facebook pages of our ELS newspaper managed by the members of the electronic media club. The first three memes to collect the most likes by 22:00 on Sunday (19.12.2021) were the undisputed winners of the competition!
Congratulations to the WINNERS!

First place: Nicole Raykova, XIe – “Average” (57 likes)

2nd place: Teodora Teneva, IXb – “We don’t have homework?” (27 likes)

3rd place: Siyana Zhelezarova, IXb – “When the teacher asks …” (23 likes)

The top-ranked memes were printed and displayed on the second floor of ELS “Geo Milev”, and the winners were awarded on December 20, 2021, by the club leaders – Dimitrinka Valcheva and Valentina Atanasova – and by Kedia King, a high school volunteer under the Fulbright program.

Memes (also called “meems”) have been gaining popularity in the recent years. Today, they are an integral part of the Internet and social media. If you haven’t heard that term yet, you’ve probably come across these pictures on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tick-Tock, or surfing the web.
The original term comes from Greek and means “something imitated”. In other words, a ”meem” was an idea, a behavior, or even a style spread from person to person. In the modern digital world with its high-speed information exchange, this type of pop art is gaining other significance. The “meme” is actually a very short video, animation, drawing or photo, with short text added, which aims to create a sense of familiarity and experience. In other words, memes (or meems) are interesting pictures with fun content that makes the viewer smile or even laugh out loud.
Although they attract the interest of teenagers, these messages find their decent place in the online dwellings of people of different ages. Their popularity is growing every day, and the topics are quite diverse. People from all over the world are inspired to create their own memes and then hurry to share them in their online accounts.
Once again – congratulations to the winners!
The electronic media club will open a weekly column “best meme” and will publish the received memes on its Facebook and Instagram account!
Dare to accept the challenge – we expect your memes!
