Dear Newspaper Staff and Readers,
It has been my pleasure to start and maintain the ELS newspaper for AEG Geo Milev. I believe it is the only English language high school publication in Bulgaria at this time. (Now there’s something Burgas news outlets should be publicizing!)
I am grateful to all the students who have applied their writing and photography skills to telling about life at the school.
I’m sorry that our in-person time was cut short in March 2020, just as we were starting to gain momentum and learn the ins and outs of putting together a newspaper. By the same token, I am grateful for the ‘extra’ time I had remotely in fall 2020/21 to extend my association with the school and students.
I look forward to continuing to read the news — and all the wonderful poetry — as teachers Dimitrinka Valcheva and Radostina Nikolova continue to guide the paper until my Fulbright successor arrives in Fall 2021.
I hope students will continue to participate with enthusiasm and enter the February Valentine’s poetry contest by sending their original work on a romantic theme to [email protected]. Also, remember to check in with Scoolmedia.com (English/Bulgarian) for monthly themed contests and an annual journalism “boot camp” with Bulgarian and international journalists.
Thanks again! Do skoro! Prue Salasky, Fulbright ETA 2019/2020
