On April 21, 2021, the webinar “Be literate!” was held by students from XI grade. It continued the activities on the calendar of all events in honour of the 50-year anniversary of the English Language High School “Geo Milev” in Burgas. The event was held online, attended by 134 participants in total. Each one had the opportunity to revise the basic language norms under the expert guidance of the students from the “Olympiad-BEL” club.
Virginia Manukyan, Simona Zelyamova, Zhelyazka Marinova, Nikolay Petkov, Ognyan Neshev, Ivelina Shterionova, Radina Dimitrova attracted the attention of the audience not only with their knowledge of the rules, but also with the relevant examples and guidelines they gave for the application of language norms.
In a short film, examples of violations of language rules were shown, as well as examples of their observance. The students covered a wide range of problems from the studied norms (spelling, grammar and punctuation): use of upper/lowercase letters, full/short article, numeral/plural, punctuation in inserted words and expressions, use of the participle, merged, semi-merged and separated writing, polite form, pronouns and others.
The moderator Virginia Manukyan imposed an energetic and businesslike tone with her introductory words, which contributed to the successful course of the event. The excellent preliminary preparation of Simona, Zhelyazka, Ivelina, Ognyan, Radina and Nikolay favors the usefulness of the webinar.
The event planned in connection with the jubilee of the school passed successfully, with high attendance.
Just before the language seminar, a solemn ceremony was held at school in the shape of a regular class, entitled 50 years of English Language High School “Geo Milev” – Burgas (January 31, 2021). There were also two webinars “Financial Literacy for Beginners” (March 24) and “Circular Economics for Beginners” (March 31).
On March 30, 2021, as a continuation of the financial webinar, the school’s partners from UK “Green REBORN” and 11th-grade students had the opportunity to further develop their knowledge in an online seminar on “Fundamentals of Blockchain Technology and Investment in Cryptocurrencies”, organized by the Department of Economics and Management at the University “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov”. It was conducted by Rusen Gigov, a PhD student and a researcher in the field of digitalization of the Bulgarian economy.
On May 5, 2021, one more jubilee event will mark the end of the year for XI grade. Club “Olympiad-BEL” organizes a literary reading entitled “A Favorite book”. An additional activity is planned for it: a survey among the citizens of Burgas about their reading habits and their favorite books.
