Special thanks to the 116 students who took part in the newspaper’s quiz held in April this year! As the answers clearly show, most of those who took part are in 9th and 8th grade (since they have not been on a school trip yet).
It is a pleasant surprise to see the newest students of ELS “Geo Milev” take an active part in such events! Here are the results:

As the first picture shows, most of the participants say they currently attend the Volleyball club. Next in the ranking come the Psychology, Basketball, Debates and Art clubs. A smaller part of those who have completed the quiz are members of the Music, Ecology, Digital translation and Mathematics club. Chemistry, Physics, E-learning, Entrepreneurs and EU citizenship are less popular among the students who took part in the quiz.

The data above clearly pionts out that a Photography club is the most desired extra-curricular activity at school in the future. The respondents also hope to attend a Board games club, as well as a Cycling team, and an IT club. Despite having the lowest percentage, History, Scouts and Philosophy clubs are also voted for by some of the questioned students.

As you can see in the photo, the next important information that we gathered is about the most liked part of the new building. With most votes, the new classrooms definitely appeal to the largest part of the voters. The cafeteria is also a favorite place for many of those who have completed the survey. The lunch break zone in the hallways and the creative room are also among the very popular options to spend your breaks in-between lessons. The library is less popular, but we do hope to see it visited by more students soon.
The next valuable data speaks for itself, but there is one thing that we learnt for sure. Artwork hung in the classroms and along the corridores is a necessity.

Now, let us move on with the results…

According to the quiz, 34% of questioned students do not attend any activities outside our school, which might well mean that the school offers a sufficient number of clubs… Of all the rest, 33% try to do sports more actively, but in another organization, 14% dance somewhere in their free time, while just 7% practice their Art skills outside school and no more than 4% do music-related activities somewhere else.

A notable result: many participants (almost 45%) have chosen ELS “Geo Milev” Burgas as the right place where to develop fluent English skills! Also, around 20% say that they have applied to the school because it’s one of the elite schools in the region, and 12% were attracted by the opportunity to learn Chinese here as well!
Just 8.62% had some other reasons to pick our school as their preferred option. Here are some of them:
- I thought it was a good school for me.
- I wanted to study Maths more intensively, so this school was a natural choice.
- It’s somewhat elite – among all other options in Burgas, it seemed okay.
- Someone who is very important to me had joined the school.
- Everything else in town seemed much worse.
- I don’t know – it just happened.
- I am doomed: I was forced to join, by the alien forces!
- I thought learning English intensively would be cool.
- I wanted to learn Maths & IT and no other school provided any such opportunity.
Here is some further data in favour of the school, in our opinion:

Despite the hard COVID lockdown and all the problems of the online education, the quiz shows that 31% of the students are extremely confident in their English skills and 16,38% are fairly confident, while 43,10% are somewhat confident. Only 9.48% feel unconfident in using English – perhaps most of them are 8th graders, since it was the first couple of months of the 2nd school term when the quiz was released and they had not dived so much into the grammar and vocabulary yet.
The next diagram is flattering, actually! Out of the 116 replies, 21.55% gave 5 stars to the school and 35.34% rated the education in ELS “Geo Milev” with four stars – a nice recognition of the work of all teachers!
Some 23.28% voted with 3 stars: also a favurable result, in our view.

Most participants in the quiz couldn’t decide which school event they enjoyed the most. 19% enjoyed several events, and 15% think that Miscellaneous events were the best. 10% liked outdoor events, while only 8% had fun in indoor events. Among the most popular events was the Outdoor interactive debate.

The quiz shows that 49% of the students are still freshmen, and haven’t been on any school trips yet. Most seniors enjoyed the trips to Varna, Pamporovo, and abroad. An entertaining honorable mention: 1% say they liked (and still like) staying at home.
The most popular destinations for any future school trips would be the Pirin, Rhodopi and Rila mountains. Plovdiv, Sofya, Varna and Veliko Turnovo are among the most preferred cities to visit.

And, finally, most participants don’t know whether the newspaper should have any articles in Bulgarian, while 19% say that it should be bilingual (obviously, they are the kind of people who want to see the world burn with emotions), and 1% think the newspaper is just fine as it is.

All in all – very interesting results!
We hope they will be useful to the school administration, too.
