On April 20, 2026, students from Geo Milev English Language School in Burgas – from classes 8V, 9V, 10V, and 10G – visited the newly built “St. Anastasia” children’s hospital in the city. These classes specialise in Biology and Chemistry, and the students demonstrate a strong interest in medicine and future careers in this field.

During the visit, the students had the opportunity to explore the hospital’s modern infrastructure and high-tech equipment, some of which is being introduced in Bulgaria for the first time. A number of innovative systems were presented, including a Real-Time Location System (RTLS) for patient tracking, hospital robots, automated pharmaceutical solutions, as well as intelligent building management systems controlling temperature, lighting, air quality, and more. The hospital has also been designed with sustainability in mind, featuring solar panels capable of fully meeting its energy needs on sunny days, along with systems for water collection and reuse.

Particular attention was drawn to the overall concept of the hospital, which places strong emphasis not only on treatment but also on the environment for children. The facility includes specially designed areas for play and learning, tailored to the needs of young patients, aiming to make their stay more comfortable and less stressful.
During the meeting, a future volunteer program for high school students was also presented. Students will have the opportunity to support young patients by reading to them, assisting with navigation within the hospital, or simply offering companionship. This initiative promotes empathy and active civic engagement among young people.
The visit gave students valuable insight into the future of healthcare and an opportunity to see what modern medicine looks like in Bulgaria. It not only enriched their knowledge but also further strengthened their motivation to pursue careers in the medical field.
