Magic is not dead! ❤️
If we can still witness that sacred inner urge called Creativity and if you can keep pouring out your emotions on paper, we shall keep repeating: Every poem is not just a combination of Skill and Art, but an act of Magic itself!

The 2nd Edition of our Annual Poetry Contest dedicated to Love took part in February. Due to some circumstances, we had to postpone the judging until the end of April.
Finally, we are ready to announce the lucky WINNERS! 😊 This year we have invited as expert Jury members three ladies, two of whom are native speakers of English:
- Miss Kadia King, a volunteering Fulbright representative, currently teaching English at the ELS “Geo Milev”
- Mrs. Prue Salasky, a former Fulbright rep and teacher of English at ELS “Geo Milev” as well as the former leader of the ELS Newspaper
- Preslava Stoyanova, Member of the Editorial Board of the ELS Newspaper and student in 11 “B”
For the Jury, it was a sheer pleasure to read and evaluate the submissions!
The contest-initiator and talent-seeker Valentina Atanasova (teacher of English and Electronic Media Club Leader) praised the authors who had accepted the challenge and shared their talent in public! Our readers had the chance to admire the applicants’ poetic skill and thought as we published the poems on Facebook and Instagram.
We received over 22 poems: almost twice as much as those we got last year! Each one demonstrated a truly special talent and outstanding command of English! We hope to double thе number next year! 😊
Three of the submitted works were selected as winners, and six more were given appraisal and honourable mention! Once again – our special thanks to the Jury, for the great job!
Here are the lucky winners of Poetry Contest 2022 (2nd edition)!
The award ceremony was on Thursday, 5th May, 2022. The young poets received books, certificates of merit and warm appraisal by Mrs. Neicheva, Principal of ELS “Geo Milev”, Burgas!
1st place: Love you with all my sins
By Alexandra Sarieva, 10th grade, class “D”
I ache to call your name, just in vain,
to feel my smile, widen with pain,
to shed a puppet tear from an empty eye,
to scream with silence with truth to lie.
You walk past my breath chases after
hungrily craving your skin and you laughter,
the air behind you bends in a tease
only for my eyes to please.
I may be naughty, I don’t deserve you maybe,
but I really want to have you, baby,
Hazel eyes, as dark as romantic,
got me shaking with my voice so frantic.
Love of my life, my dearest sin,
all those words come from deep within,
if you don’t want me, I will understand,
I’ll remain colder still, now and then,
I will fall down in thoughts, collapse to the ground,
those words unspoken will never be found.
My tongue twisting, my sight beyond my stare,
I’ll start walking towards the closest nowhere,
I’ll find you anywhere in and out of this world,
I will do anything to be your girl.

2nd place: The 8th day of the week
By Darina Mireva, 8th grade, class “E”
You don’t know how long
I stare at photos of you
and wish that I was there.
What day will be our day? …
You’re like snow
beautiful on the outside
but cold on the inside,
once somebody approaches you,
you disappear.
What day will be our day? …
You twisted my heart
like a Rubik’s cube.
You’re red,
I’m green,
and the world isn’t ready
to see yellow.
If you would give me
a pinky promise,
then I would know that the 8th day of the week
will be for us.

3rd place: Last Call
By Gabriela Dimitrova, 9th grade, class “B”
I will call you one more time,
One last time, one last conversation.
I will hear your voice, you will hear mine.
You will ask me how I am,
And I will lie that I am fine between my tears.
We will talk for a long time,
We will laugh a lot, I will promise you out.
You will not know that this is our last call,
That this is our last conversation.
I will tell you that I love you and I will hang up.
I will wipe away my tears and I will disappear.
