Here is another interesting fact! Unlike the other such mentioned here as examples, it is not trying to change your mind, since it simply cannot do it.
A curious thing: facts do not change our minds. We used to enjoy certain things in our past and hearing new stuff about them does not make us love them any less. If you eat some food and then learn the ingredients which seem interesting to you, this is not going to change the way you like it. You have already liked it once and that is how the brain works.
So here are some scientific reasons:
Some scientists such as Gina Snuggles (what a name!) say that people do not believe all facts because some do seem too bizarre. Well, if you happen to hear that a celebrity has turned out to be an acquaintance of yours, you are not likely to believe that, for sure.
Another reason is that our brain is really rigid. It does not want to trust everythhing it hears because it has already created (or followed) a good enough viewpoint that appears to be easy to accept and believe.
Another really interesting reason is that we all tend to dislike hearing simple facts. Yes, you have read it correctly. We get bored when hearing facts, even though some of us love reading about them. We all know that we are not supposed to eat hot or spicy food because it causes discomfort in the stomach. Well, it is quite the same situation with facts. We are not meant to hear them. We need to witness the fact, to see it with our own eyes. That is why our brain operates this way. Or at least that is what Ellen Shimre says. Interesting enough, Ellen was born in the 1990s, which makes her a young individual with a bright mind. She was interested in facts. At first, not im the way she explains them in the book, but later on, when she developed her theories about facts, it seems that they interested her even more than enough to write the book.
Ellen Shimr had a really good relationship with a lot of scientists. She had someone to talk to and to discuss her theories with. She published a book at the age of 21, in 2011. She isn’t very popular with kids or even adults, but at least she has written the story in a really interesting way.
In conclusion, facts are not meant to change our mind but to make us look at the world a little bit differently, or at least to look at it the way that it is. We can’t say that we have a point of view without the support of general truth, or at least something that has convinced us that it is a general truth. We can’t see we have a formed opinion if we do not support it with anything from the truth. By that I mean that we can have an opinion on the truth but if we don’t know it and we don’t support anything which facts we can see we have an opinion on something.
