From 12 December 2025 to 14 December 2025, at FILIZ School in the city of Edirne, by invitation of Mrs. Radoslava Kafedzhiyska, Consul General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Edirne, Republic of Türkiye, and Mr. Branimir Iliev, Head of the Consular Service at the Consulate General in Edirne, Republic of Türkiye, students from English Language School „Geo Milev” in Burgas took part in a MUN (Model United Nations) conference. The conference is a simulation of the work of the United Nations, where students take on the role of diplomats, discuss global issues, and attempt to find solutions. They simulate diplomatic negotiations, draft resolutions, and participate in voting procedures.
The visit began with a tour of the Bulgarian church “St. Constantine and St. Helena” in Edirne. The students and their teachers attended a short lecture on the history of the church. Afterwards, the students of English Language School “Geo Milev” visited Filiz Okullari School, where the conference itself was held. There, they met their host families, with whom the guests stayed during their time in Türkiye. The group had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the local culture during a sightseeing tour of the city, which started at Karaagac Railway Station. The tour continued with a visit to the Science Museum, where the students enriched their knowledge of the diversity of the animal world. Finally, the students and teachers visited the Sultan Bayezid II Complex, where they learned about the daily life of the ruler and his court.

and competencies related to representing a foreign country’s position on various globally significant issues, as well as to develop skills in public speaking, negotiation, research, and international dialogue. The students were divided into three committees—IAEA, DISEC, and SOCHUM—as delegates of different countries. The IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) committee discussed topics related to nuclear energy. The DISEC (Disarmament and International Security Committee) focused its work on cyberattacks and their prevention. The SOCHUM (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee) sought solutions to the problems faced by people with disabilities. The conference consisted of a total of nine sessions—four on the first day and five on the second day. During these sessions, the delegates made proposals, voted for or against them, and presented positions on issues directly or indirectly related to their committee’s agenda.
Such conferences, which allow for the exchange of experience among peers, become unforgettable memories and give each student the opportunity to compare the educational system in their own country with those of other countries, while at the same time improving their foreign language communication skills.
The students of ELS “Geo Milev” who participated in the MUN conference gained experience that few have the opportunity to acquire and formed warm international friendships. We extend our gratitude for the invitation to Ms. Radoslava Kafedzhiyska and Mr. Branimir Iliev, as well as for the excellent organization provided by Filiz Okullari School in Edirne.
